India is world's second most pupulous nation with a population over 1050 million. It has world's seventh largest land area of 32,87,590 sq. km, surrounded by sea from 3 sides i.e. east, west, south and on the extreme north are Himalyan mountains. It has major seaports at Mumbai, Kandla, Cochin, Chennai and Kolkata with abundance of vessels of various shipping lines. The country has world's largest railway network, roads connected to all the towns and has efficient demostic and international airline network. Every town of the country is connected with telephone lines because of India's own setelite systems. India leads in world in I.T. and internet connections exist in all the towns of country.
Northern Himalayan Mountains have cool to coolest temperature while rest of the country has plains and hills having varied temperatures, with soil efficient to produce abundance of grains, fruits, vegetables while milk production is surplus than consumption. Trade Heritage of India
About 1000 years ago spices and gems were exported from India by boats from Cochin port and jewellery was exported to Kabul (Afganistan) by road. In turn various products like rough precious stones, silk and silk product, carpets, crockery etc. were imported on batter system.
